Hi, i am goning on a short trip to London with my sister and 2 children aged 10.
We will need to travel from Victoria to Slough one way on the first day
From Slough to legoland return on the second day
then slough back to victoria on the nxt day
We are looking for the cheapst way for us to travel the cheapest way possible. I have been looking at the rainbow bus timetable and fares are more than i would like them to be.
it seems you can only get a family ticket (whichwould of been best) on weekends and bank hols (we go sun -tues)
Im looking into the oyster card as heard this makes travel cheaper but does this cover all the above areas?
Would tube or bus be cheaper?
Anyhelp on finding fares would be great - i hate timetables, and would love the benefit of someones experience who may have done this
thnks in avance for any help

The Oyster card would only take you as far as Heathrow by tube, leaving you to get and pay for a bus to Slough from there. They run quite frequently but I've no idea of the fares

Off peak Oyster would charge you £2.40 per adult to Heathrow
Off-Peak single fares apply from 09:30-16:00 and after 19:00 Monday to Friday (based on when you touch in, not when your service leaves)
Your kids would travel free and don't need tickets on the tube. They'd probably pay on the bus to Slough
You need an Oyster card for each adult - there is a £3 deposit but you can get it refunded by handing the card in.
So it depends what the rainbow fares are at the times you want to travel (and the fares to Slough) but looks as though it could be cheaper0 -
I have not used the slough bus, but I think the 702 green line rainbow fares will be your cheapest option, just looking at Sunday for example violet fares are £1 per adult and half that for children, so £3 for the 4 of you to travel from London to Slough however the coach is at 8.30pm or 9.30pm, if you want earlier travel you will pay more i.e £7.50 per adult b4 noon and £3.25 per child.
http://www.rainbowfares.com/timetables/glsun.htm
On the Tuesday if you travel at 12.55, 1.55 or 2.55 from Slough to London you would pay £3 per adult and £1.50 per child, so £9 intotal for the 4 of you. If you want to travel earlier again you would pay more. E.g. If you want to get the 9.10am bus you would pay £7 per adult and £3.50 per child so £21.
It also seem that this 702 bus is the bus you will need to get on the Monday from Slough to Legoland. It looks as if the best way is the 8.53am or 9.55am buses from Slough to Legoland and it seems cheapest to get a day return ticket for each adult at £7.50 and children will be half that at £3.75, so £22.50 return for 4 of you.0 -
Walk.
Yes I know, spectacularly un-helpful, but you did ask and on a whim I couldn't resist it."If you are going through Hell, keep going" - Winston Churchill0 -

Like Dzug1, I don't know the transport system prices outside of London, so not sure if this is correct but looking at Dzug1 link, it looks like bus 75 and 76 run from Heathrow to Slough and they are operated by a company called firstgroup, their prices seem to be £5.60 per adult and £3.60 per child for a two zone (grey and blue) daily ticket? So £18.40 for this journey? I am sure that someone who is from Slough will be able to clarify if this is correct or not.

Slough is outside the London Transport zones, so you cannot use Oyster card there. You can only use the Oyster card within the London Transport travel zones. The fast train runs from Paddington to Slough but is not covered by Oyster or London Travelcard as it does not stop at any London Stations on route. You could use a Travelcard on the slow Paddington to Slough train until West Drayton, where it stops and then you would need a train ticket for all of you from there to Slough (purchase before boarding the slow train from Paddington) to cover the whole journey. According to the BR fare finder it would cost £9.30 for the 4 of you from there to Slough. Another option is to use Oyster which would be £2.40 off peak per adult using Oyster, to West Drayton (Kids free), but as you have to scan Oyster out in a LT area you would need to get off the train there, scan out the Oyster and buy tickets for West Drayton to Slough and then wait for the next train.

i had got the prices for the 702 green line and its going to cost app £70 over the four trips. I might check out a taxi for the single fare journeys
I found the zones on the timetable for the first group really complicated to figure out, will have another loo0 -

That's for unlimited travel for a day - I would hope (though maybe in vain?) that a single journey would be cheaper. It's an awful lot for a half hour journey0 -
Victoria to Slough...
How about District/Circle Line to South Kensington, then Piccadilly Line to Hounslow West, then 81 bus?0 -

Using Oyster off peak that would work out £8.20 each way i.e. 2 adults single tube journey £2.40 and 2 adults single bus fares at £1.20, plus kids travel free when under 11. Might be better option if the OP wants to travel earlier in the day on the Sunday.0 -

If you go at the times quoted in my previous post it would cost you £34.50 on the 702 Green line bus for the 4 journeys in total.
Using Keiths tube and 81 bus route it would cost you £16.40 (if you travel aft 9.30am on Tues) for Victoria to Slough return and £22.50 for the Slough Legoland 702 bus return on Monday so £38.90 in total for all travel over the 3 days, slightly dearer, but better times on the Sunday. However just a word of warning check the tube works for the Sunday (as a lot on at weekends) you are going to make sure that there are no planned works.
