OFFICIAL MOT Testing Station List

Don't know about you folks, but each year finding an 'honest' MOT testing station that won't rip you off seems to be getting harder. Part of the problem is *finding* an MOT station in the first place (those that shout and advertise can often be the worst offenders).

With that in mind here is the OFFICIAL downloadable list of UK MOT testing stations from the Governments website:

I am very lucky, in that I have a friend with a bodyshop who takes my car to the MOT, we then fix it.

Doesn't make it any easier to pass but at least I know there is no extra bits of work required.

I do still normally have my annual rant an why on earth I have to replace another perfectly good brake pipe..... Last time I had to get two flexipipes replaced on 56 plate (corrosion at the ends apparently)
  • Just use the council run ones, they don't do work so have no need to fail the cars to get more work.

I am included to believe some of the rumours I have heard which state they are often full of [TEXT REMOVED BY FORUM TEAM] looking for private work - so I avoid them myself.

On a similar thread, someone once suggested using Royal Mail and BT facilities but I can put my hand on my heart and say this was the worst decision of my life:

Not only was the manager the rudest man I've ever met (how dare I ask 'will it be going in today?' - I'm surprised his tongue did not cut his own throat he was that sharp),but a 45 minute 'while you wait' MOT took 5 hours - utterly appalling customer service. Never again!

Its a good list to search through to find the real place that your MOT will be taken to.

My g/fs brother has just got his MOT station up and running in the last month or so and can now sort it all in house. Up until now he was buying them in from somewhere else and making some profit on top.

He now has a contract or 2 with local tyre places that advertise MOTs but then just drive them around to him so he makes money on the re-sale price to them and they make money on top.

If the customers came direct to the garage they would save around a fiver on the MOT price, have the facility of the MOT viewing area, be able to speak to the tester/owner of the garage and get a brew from my g/f in reception.

Do you mean working there? (ive never been to one)

My thinking is this.... !!!!!'s have no fixed abode and therefore cannot have a bank account, cannot pay tax and cannot work legally in the UK. So one would doubt they'd be working for the council, or at least you'd hope not :rotfl:

Or perhaps it's just something made up by garages to scare people away from getting "fair" MOTs?

I'll have to look into it one day!
