Ipod Touch with MiFi and Three

Recently had my car nicked which had an Ipod in (old classic). Needs replacing and on reflection thought I might get a Touch this time just to see how I go with them. It is for my Mrs really, and unlike me she has quite limited playlists and listens to the same stuff all the time so an 8gb one would be more than enough.
Sepratley I was looking at getting a MiFi device for mobile broadband - and I spotted this deal from three:
MiFI device + Ipod Touch 8gb £179.
This seems a great deal for me (I will just swap my sim from my existing three USB dongle and stay on same contract).
The only thing that is stopping me is that I'm not clear if this ipod is going to be a recent generation that I can install the new OS4 on or whether it is old stock and an earlier generation more limited ipod. The three website isn't clear. Does anyone know?

if its the 8gb model it wont be the recent version of the ipod and wont support all the features of os4... there is a big debate going on about companies mis selling ipods as the 3rd gen model but they are in fact 2nd gen and so far the only tell ive noticed is if it has an 8gb capacity theres no way it can be a 3rd gen, as they dont make them.
saying that i was looking at the exact same thing yesterday in the shop, and the display model is on version 3.1.3 i just thought it would be better for me to buy the wifi dongle outright instead as all me and my partner would do is argue over the ipod lol.0 -
Thanks Bob - I'm not an Ipod expert - so to help me decide if the extra features matter for the money - can anyone help me understand what I couldn't do if I got the 8gb Ipod Touch that I would be able to do on the 16gb version?0

from what i recall the 3rd gen ipods only come in 32 and 64gb versions, so the os4 will only be useful on those devices.
though tbh the only feature that people notice is the multitasking function. if anyone else knows of anything then please speak up
edit - http://www.electricpig.co.uk/2010/04/08/iphone-os-4-will-your-apple-iphone-ipod-touch-or-ipad-run-it/
as i thought the 8gb ipods will have the multitasking stripped out... for a full list of features check http://gizmodo.com/5512635/iphone-os-40-the-best-new-features
most of the updates revolve around the multitasking, but im sure things like unified inbox on mail will work just as fine.0 -
Thanks for that...
Having just had a bit of a google I found this: http://buyersguide.macrumors.com/
with a likely map for refreshes- looks like a new touch is due September and quite likley to have many iphone 4 tricks (camera, facetime etc). Think I'll hange fire for that....
May just buy a bigger micro SD for my phone (Nokia E72) and use that as a make-do MP3 player until then...0
