I don't care about my debts

Since I began my DFW journey earlier this year, I am the first to admit I've become a tad obsessed with saving money and it had become a huge part of my life. Almost to the point, where I was starting to become very self centred and stingy.
However, since last Thursday, I see now, that life is not just about paying off debts but just a small part of it. For those of you who do not frequent the Discussion Board, I posted on there last week seeking advice on how to support a friend who had recently been diagnosed with breast cancer. As I started to get my head around things, she then informed me yesterday that the cancer is Stage 3, very aggressive and likely to have spread. She's a truly tremendous person, loving, caring and only in her 30's - it has been a huge shock for all of her colleagues, friends and family.
This has hammered home to me how important it is to live life to the full, and not to sweat the small stuff. Although I will be continuing on my DFW mission, I have to admit that I will no longer be torturing myself as to whether I've bought the cheapest toilet roll or driving all over town to save a few pence. I fully intend to wear all of those things I keep 'for best' more often, make more of an effort to spend time with those I love and let everyone know how much I value and care for them. Knee jerk maybe, but I've had a royal kick up the backside and a chance to make the most of my life. Something I hope and pray my friend also has.

Its nice to be important but more important to be nice!

In many situations death is inevitable. Health care is improving but the scientific discoveries cannot help those that are suffering now. Help your local hospice with charitable donations, if you know that their care and expertise exceeds that offered by the NHS.

Although without the shackle of debt repayments around your neck, you could do even more of this
Can't argue with your attitude thoughWarning ..... I'm a peri-menopausal axe-wielding maniac0 -
Sorry to hear about your friend I hope things turn out ok. Had to smile about your remark of driving all over town to save a few pence is your fuel free then?0

sorry to hear about your friend and my best wishes are with you.
But its true.... its funny how it takes something serious to happen to a close loved one to make you realise how precious life really is and we should all be cherishing our loved ones like its ourlast day on earth, everyday!Abbey Loan £6,000
Tesco loan £3,000
Tesco points --- £100 worth £400 in deals for holiday! :j :T

But that's the whole reason for getting things 'under control' as soon as possible.
If I go earlier than expected, I don't want my family to have the weight of my debts around them as well as the grief of my departure.
When our debts are cleared, we will be able to enjoy life to the full so that when we die we can look back on it and say we were happy in the end.I am a Travel Agent My company’s ATOL/ABTA numbers are E7760/3970. Hiya little-miss
My *best* friend was also diaganosed in January this year, with grade 3 aggressive (the worst apparently).
She was diagnosed on the friday, had a mastectomy on the Saturday!!! What a shock that was.
She has 2 little girls, the youngest was only 16 weeks at that time.
It was terrible, although the op she said was ok, (she has opted to have the other breast removed, and has an appt in a couple of weeks to discuss this).
She has had 6 months of chemo, and is looking fine and well, she says she has never felt better in her whole life.
The best advice i can offer you, is be there for her, through the ups and downs. I am a better person for this nasty experience.
Yes there is more too life than shaving 5p off something! it does put it all into perpective!
If you want to pm me - feel free.
Hugs to you

I know what you mean, a very close relative has terminal cancer and the last few months have been tough, but it does make you view life differently. I wish you and your friend the very best xQuit smoking 18/08/070

I wish your friend a complete and speedy recovery. Looking on the bright side, I know more survivors of Breast Cancer than I know people who died from it. Treatment has really advanced in recent times. Be strong for your friend. Wishing you well.Official DFW Nerd No 096 - Proud to have dealt with my debt!0

Thank you for your kind comments:o I will still be ploughing all available cash into paying off my debts as quickly as possible, but the emphasis has shifted for me and it just doesn't seem that important at the moment.
Pot 'o' gold - thank you for your story. This has given me the positive boost I needed, as I have to admit, I've been having very morbid thoughts since she told me yesterday just how nasty things were.
I'm still definitely a DFW just a definitely more chilled out DFW - which has to be good all round :AIts nice to be important but more important to be nice!0 -
Hi littlemiss.
I fully understand how you feel. And I agree. I have also recently had another lightbulb moment - I realised that out of all the sections of "life's pie"...money is the least important.
All the best to you clearing the debts but as you say, don't sweat it.
I am the same - I will be plugging away but, I've definitely let my obsession go.Bank Balance: In the black for the moment.
