Replacing Broken Glass

I'm a tenant, and I've just accidentally cracked my landing window. Does anyone know what the cost is to have it replaced?

we might be good.... but not that good... it all depends on the size and type of glass.. measure it and call a local glazier....

Landing window? Do you mean an external window or internal one?

If it's a DG unit then you need to speak to someone who deals in replacement dg units. If it's single glass then a glazier will do it.

    £23.56 plus VAT.
  • It's a standard double glazed patterned landing window. I'd need to measure the window. Only one side of the double glazed window is cracked.

I don't want it to cost thousands as I'm a student, and I wouldn't be able to afford that!

I do however have home contents insurance, but I don't know if my policy would cover cracked windows.

Just measure the window and ring a local glazier for a quote. If you're capable of University study, this one shouldn't be beyond you.

A replacement DG panel will probably cost you around 50 quid, plus fitting unless you and a mate are reasonably handy.

Get some quotes and then talk to your LL. S/he may have discounts available with local glaziers.

It also depends on which side of the window is cracked. Externally, it may not have been you that cracked it. :A

    The inside.
  • Ah the "standard window" - having spent a few years selling curtains/blinds etc. when faced with someone saying "it's a standard bedroom window" my reply was "Standard A or Standard B?"

    Of course they never knew

So I would ask them to check, giving out the little leaflet on "how to measure a window"

In case anyone has missed my point, there is no such thing as a standard window - at least in the sense that anything more than a tiny percentage of window in the country are the same size.

What on Earth is a standard landing window? Mine is about 30cm by 200cm, my mothers is around 60cm by 90cm, a house I was in today was around 120cm by 120cm and another house I was in last week was around 45cm by 100cm. Which one of those was standard?

Tape measures are 99p in Bodge and Quit - please use one
Unless it is damaged or discontinued - ignore any discount of over 25%
