The longer this thread runs without an authorative and detailed reply from one of the Utility reps, the more I am convinced that the Utilities when dealing with failed switches, have ignored the legal boundaries of their own contracts
You'll be waiting a while - I don't remember ever seeing an official rep from EDF or BG on these boards. People like Joyful and myself try to help out in an ad-hoc capacity but this isn't enough for you.

I am getting a stronger and stronger whiff of Red Herring from your post Nos. 6 & 9
The impression I get from the OP is that in fact they never left EDF - they were not the subject of an Erroneous Transfer (more an Erroneous Non-Transfer) - one of their neightbours will have been switched to BG without knowing it. This may be giving you your whiff.

Your report of a 5 flat building in which the meters have been labelled with incorrect flat Nos, is indeed a problem for BG which is not of BG's making, however rajlaldil has reported he is in an older building and has had an admission frm BG that they are at fault
Depends on your definition of older I suppose - if a property has never tried to switch an error like this will never come to light.
    Interestingly...

I have all letter B.G confirm the address the supply which is my address but, the serial number of the mater is not mine.
Depending on when this letter arrived, it looks like the OP had the oppurtunity to spot that the meter on the letter (at the very least on each and every bill/statement) was not the meter in his property. If the central database is wrong, how would BG know?
Should the OP have pointed this out?

I agree that the OP expected to be on a different tariff, but and indeed the meter he signed up to BG did move to them and recieve that tariff. His meter however remained on the same tariff it had been on with EDF all along. I fully agree that more effort should be made by the suppliers to inform customers to check the details on their bills vs meters - but you can lead a horse to water....

PS - as to compensation for financial loss - document exactly the financial loss. Note that this cannot include expected financial gain.
Write to both suppliers with the list asking for the money.

Roll on when we all get smart meters and in home displays then these issues will all disappear. The reason I say this is because supplier will be able to send you a message and you will then confirm receipt, if the details are wrong you wont get the message. Well thats the plan.

    Rajladil.
First you need to make a list of everything you have spent (e.g. 1 May 4 phone calls - £1; 8 May, 1 letter 50p). Remember that EDF will not pay for letters/calls to BG and the other way around.
Then list how much what you have used (from your meter/EDF bills) would have cost you with British Gas compared with what it has cost you with EDF.

Put the information here and we can help.

£20 gesture of goodwill max, you wont get anymore and that would be to cover call costs.
  • SwanJon, thank you for your great help.

I will put here for you very soon. Thank you again.

You can goto the bank and claim that back. Utterly useless.
