Start in safe mode with no networking and do a virus scan and clean

thanks, I will do that tomorrow :)
  • I don't think AVG will do the job to be honest - it is recently quite rubbish at doing its job. Run malwarebytes and hijackthislog. After that we shall change the antivirus you use to a better one, which will do what its supposed to do.

    Instructions written by alienRIK:

Download MALWAREBYTES (Make sure you click 'DOWNLOAD LATEST VERSION')
    http://www.filehippo.com/download_ma..._anti_malware/
Open malwarebytes and goto UPDATE and click 'check for updates'. After its updated goto SCANNER and click PERFORM FULL SCAN then click SCAN
Remove everything thats found (needs to be ticked)
Post the COMPLETE log here AFTER youve deleted everything it finds

    reboot

Download HIJACK THIS (Make sure you click 'DOWNLOAD THIS VERSION')
    http://www.filehippo.com/download_hijackthis/2894/
Click MAIN MENU then DO A SYSTEM SCAN AND SAVE A LOGFILE(Takes seconds) then post the log so we can see whats running
(do NOT do anything else with Hijack but scan and post the FULL log)

sometimes the easiest thing to do is just save everything onto dvds or a second hard drive, format your computer then just load everything back on.

if its a stubborn virus you can spend hours going around in circles to remove it. i usually just format my comp and start fresh and reinstall stuff.
  • I don't think this is an especially stubborn virus - or it's not conclusive at the moment as it's only AVG which can't remove the virus.

So run malwarebytes and hijack this as stated in post 4. There's a few tricks still left and if those don't work, reinstalling windows should be considered - but not yet.

As a rule FORMAT is the very LAST thing you should do to a computer, you only format a pc after all other avenues have been covered.

I wouldn't necessarily say that. The time you could spend cleaning up a badly infected PC compared with how long it takes to reinstall windows and the apps you actually use... I don't see why people bother half the time.

Make an image of the freshly installed machine and it'll take 10 minutes to return your machine to a fully working, clean setup.
They say it's genetic, they say he can't help it, they say you can catch it - but sometimes you're born with it

I disagree too, personally I keep my Windows install disk close to hand with a backed up folder of known good drivers, latest wiindows service packs, and install executables for my important programs....

Install time 15 mins for Win7, probably 30-40 mins for everything else, I can get my machine back to a top performing factory/new state in under an hour with no data loss, MUCH easier than faffing with virus removal or whatever else may have gone wrong and avoidaance of any 'slowing down over time' type issues too :)

Try using Comodo Internet Security. It's a free program & I've been using it for about 8 months now & had no security issues.
you can get 32 or 64 bit versions.

Google Comodo Internet Security & select the second entry from the top.

    Sorry can't post links.

    Hope this helps out
