Housing Association Query

A friend of a friend rents from a Housing Association and says they are being offered money to move out. The place is not being demolished or anything and will be re-let to someone else. Is this common and if so what is the advantage to the Housing Association? I can see the advantage to the current tenant about £30k to vacate, but why would the Housing association do this?

  • Hi pbradley936, I got £18k over 11 years ago to vacate my council maisonette, the £18k went towards me buying a property in the public sector enabling me to get on the property ladder, without it I would more than likely still be a council tenant as there was no way we could have afforded it without the money.
I doubt they will be getting the money in their hand. I believe it would go towards buying a property in the public sector therefore the benefit to the housing association is they have freed up a property to house another family who needs housing and has helped your friend to buy their own property. Hope this makes sense, I do tend to waffle at times lol :rotfl:
