new ring main for kitchen- OTT quote?

Hi there, any advice from those in the trade hugely welcomed.

Our sparky has quoted £800 for a new ring main for our kitchen, to include 13 amp cable for cooker, fuses and sockets for 4 appliances + 3 double plug sockets plus all cabling.

We are chasing out the walls and supplying the 3 double plug sockets.

Our kitchen fitter is replacing part of our ceiling so he can have access to bring the cabling down into the room, and the fitter will make good after so this is not part of the quote.

A couple of people have seemed surprised by this amount, so I just wanted to check it out with anyone who knows.

Well without seeing the job its difficult to say but it sounds like it might be a bit high for Wales if you are doing the chasing. Can you get a more detailed breakdown eg parts and labour, or get him to tell you how long it will take? It might include changes to or a new mini fuse board depending on how old your existing one is and if there is earth bonding or not to the gas and water pipes.

Sounds very expensive to me. I've just had a whole house rewired for £3k......

I've done a few kitchens that have come in at 1-1.5K, it all depends on how many points are needed and what the access is like....

Also, is this a complete new ring main from the fusebox?

There's so many variables to consider, installed a new ring main to my kitchen last year, fuse board was under bay window, totally other end of the house, so the run was stupid!!
