Easyjet flight cancelled, help please!!

I have just received an email to say that my Easyjet flight from Edinburgh to Bristol on Saturday 31st July has been cancelled :( (It doesn't say why the flight has been cancelled)

I was offered the option of rebooking the flight or taking a full refund but neither of these options suit me. I can't leave a day earlier as the inlaws are on holiday and they are my cat, dog, chicken and guinea pig sitters! I already have the return sector booked for the Thursday but it was made as a separate booking.

It says in the email that "You can book economy travel with an alternative carrier and claim the cost of this travel back from easyJet after you have travelled". However, there are no other carriers that fly from Edinburgh to Bristol. Flybe fly from Edinburgh to Bristol on that date (someone from Cornwall was going to drive up to Bristol to collect us) but the flights are currently £245. Does anyone know if Easyjet would cover the cost under these circumstances given that we won't be flying to the same destination with the new airline? In their terms and conditions, it says something about 250 Euros compensation (is this per person?) would they be able to apply this to the cost of the new flights or is that a separate matter?

I don't really want to pay 10p per minute to phone them as this point so was hoping someone who may have experienced similar to this could help please!

Thanks in anticipation.

Presumably you mean Edinburgh to Exeter

You could check Edinburgh to Cardiff BTW which is currently £52.99

Edit - perhaps you didn't as that works out as £56.99 plus checked baggage and even Newquay is under £100

The 250 euros is separate and is per person.

It was Edinburgh to Newquay; it's for 2 adults and 1 infant.

Try the cheaper-rate phone numbers from http://saynoto0870.com/search.php

easyJet did have a good online chat facility as recently as late last year but I can't seem to find it.

Why don't you respond to the email they sent to you and ask whether they would cover the difference in a slightly different routing even if it is more expensive?

Separate matter as Apt has said. Leave that to one side for now as you would be entitled to that compensation for cancellation.

Post back here once you've returned form your break and we can advise next steps on the compo aspect.

Thanks Cityboy :) I emailed them last night and will see what they say but I don't expect them to respond very quickly. I may have to just bite the bullet and book the Flybe flights today anyway as it's so close to the departure date and they will most likely go up in price.

    Thanks again :)

I'm really not sure if this will help, but i'm going to throw it out there anyway....

If they insist it is to the same airports - i.e. has to be Edinburgh - Bristol, the following decent connections are available on the 31st:

    Fly BE - via Isle of Man (d. 09:35 a, 10:30 d. 12:15 a. 13:15)
    KLM - via Amsterdam
    Air France - via Paris
    Aer Arrann - via Cork
    Fly BE - via Jersey

They are all legal connections, and if you look at the first connection via Isle of Man, it's not ridiculously long either!
  • I had a booking on 17th july (saturday) from edinburgh to bristol and it was cancelled, found out when we got to the airport had to get a flight down to luton and then get 1 bus , 1 train 2 tube trains and another train to get to bristol total cost £120.
return leg arrived at airport flight cancelled 24th july (saturday) no flights going until monday when i was due back at work, so had to fly to newcastle and then the metro,2 trains to get to edinburgh total cost £114
i will never fly with easy jet again it will take about 4 weeks to see if i get the extra costs back they said i would but will wait and see.
flybe fly to cardiff if thats any good to you from edinburgh, i could'nt get on that flight as it was fully booked
