Replacement fascias and soffits

Firstly I appreciate this has been covered previously, but could do with an update. My 4 bed detached is in need of new fascias and soffits etc. My queries are:-
- What is rough guide to the cost of full UPVC replacement these days? ( nearest £500 just to give an idea?)
- Are there any companies that will repair the wood effectively, rather than the plastic option.
- Is there a definite "best practice" guide anywhere on plastic replacements to bring me up to speed?

Hi,
Firstly, it is extremely difficult to give a quote without actually seeing the windows, assessing what needs done and measuring how big your replacement windows need to be. There isn't a single price for a window in the double glazing industry, it depends on the sizes.
Secondly, wood can be restored by a good joiner rather than a company as most of them focus on glazing repairs and replacement windows rather than restoration.
Thirdly, plastic windows are commonly referred to as PVCU or UPVC, and there are hundreds of sites out there offering you information. Look out for windows that are A+ Rated, come with a guarantee of minimum 10 years on both the glass and profile (plastic outer area) and utilise a good design such as Veka. For security, the secured by design feature is essential too. Finally, new technology such as the triseal spacer bar are also attractive.

Hi khalid,
You may wish to read the posters question again, he/she is asking about soffits and fascias , not windows. Fran.:rotfl:0 -
I also have a 4 bedroom house in need of replacement facia/soffit. A few months ago, I read somewhere in the forum that to professionally replace old wooden soffit/facias and guttering with new UVPC costs approx £75 to £90 per metre, though inflation may have increased this now. I believe this price includes the cost of basic scaffolding. The big players would no doubt charge a great deal more. Replacement UVPC ( as opposed to cladding ) would be 17mm depth min and white. I made approximate measurements of existing woodwork by counting bricks horizontally and vertically in each facia run, then using simple triangulation to work out dimensions. eg. each gable end facia runs 16 bricks horizontally, and 24 bricks vertically. As brick is 230x75 mm, then horizontal and vertical dimension are 3.68*1.8 metres. Using pythagoras, square root of ((3.68*3.68)+(1.8*1.8)) = square root of 16.78 = 4.1 metres approx. Or just use a calculator. I am a reasonably capable and enthusiastic DIY freak, and plan to tackle this myself. I expect to complete the task on a budget somewhat cheaper than the one above. Interested to hear other comments on this.0

Thanks - Yes I'm talking about Fascias and Soffits. Interesting though. My wife is more mathmatical than I and she has disappeared into the garden with a tape measure. Not a chance of doing it myself - nipping up the ladder with a sharp screw driver ( implement not drink) was bad enough. Good luck with the DIY though. Anybody had quotes from your usual SME type business?0

Hi there i hope this is some help to you,i recently had my 4 bedroom house and double garage done and they stripped every thing back and did a very good job which took 4 and a half days for 2 men and i paid £34000

Cheers for that. A local firm who has done a couple of jobs in our neighbourhood has quoted £2850 - excluding the garage. So it seems that the quotes are in line. Thanks0

£55 to £80 per linear metre for 22mm total replacement to including gutteringif you think peoples advice is helpfull please take the time to clicking the thank you button it gives great satisfaction0

£2850 seems expensive unless you have a particularly large property.
I would still shop around - also be careful that you are not paying too high a premium for a local firm who think they have the work due to neighbours using them. Whilst reccommendations are obviously good the firms often become complacent on price when they think they have the job already (if that makes sense!)
