Am i within my rights to ask TFL to compensate me for this?

Hi, i recently booked a journey to brighton via london st pancras. I had to change at St P's to make my way down to victoria.
I had given myself 50 mins time to make this journey. When i arrived, i found that there was a "half service" on the victoria line, which was bad enough. But when i got onto the train, the train stopped. The driver said this was because of "a kind of traffic jam" and there was a backlog of trains. I sat on that baking hot train for about 25 minutes, totally still, until it crawled from one station to the next. The result was that i just arrived at victoria 5 mins after my train had left. i had to pay £25 for another ticket. A lady on the train said that she had given herself an hour to get to paddington, and had missed her train to cornwall, and now would have to probably pay £100, and a lady next to me missed Chicago. Both of them urged me to write to TFL getting them to compensate me for this dreadful service. Am i within my rights to do so? Do i include both tickets?
thanks! x

Did you buy your entire journey in one booking? If so you should have spoken to staff at Victoria who have the power to endorse your ticket for a later train.0

TfL have a scheme whereby they will pay you the value of your ticket (either £3 or £4 for the tube sector in your case - probably the latter) for delays of (I think) more than half an hour. There's a form on their website that you can fill in. You may need to send the ticket
https://www.tfl.gov.uk/tfl/tickets/refunds/overgroundrefund/default.asp
They will not pay any consequential loss. You are always in your rights to ask, but save your breath
But why Victoria? There are through trains every 15 minutes from St Pancras to Brighton. No need to use the tube at all0 -

Hi ... no idea about the appeal - but if you do, send copies of the tickets - keep the originals.
