Ideas for Finances Management Software

Options
Hello

I am interested in identifying a suitable finances management software for my PC. In the past I have used MS Money; my understanding is that this does not exist any more.

I am not looking for any terribly fancy piece of kit neither am I interested in software that connects directly to bank accounts to download data etc. (too scary!). I prefer manual entries. I would however like some degree of automation regarding the downloading of market share prices and especially unit trust prices (I guess this is too much to ask for).

If anybody has any experience with any decent software, I look forward to your advice. Freeware would be good but would not mind paying for something that is really good.

Many thanks

I'd get a copy of MS Money from somewhere. It may not be in development anymore but it fits the bill for what you need.

I put a very similar post on this site a few weeks ago. I used to have Quicken but it wouldn't run on my new W7 PC.
    One of the responses suggested:
    http://moneydance.com/
Which I, in my ignorance !, had never heard of.

I downloaded the trial, played with it for a couple of hours, then bought it ! It did all I needed it to (and a lot more); plus, it was very similar in use to my old Quicken package.

If you still have your copy of MSMoney, it still installs ok / works ok / and does UK banks ok / and downloads statements and cheque numbers from UK banks ok.

I'm still using the 2004 version with no probs

Yep, i installed Money UK 2005 on a Vista laptop just recently. Didn't even need to set to XP compatability mode. It pulls down stock quotes fine. Just dont try and use the MS Passport security as that's been withdrawn.

Thanks for this. Visited the website very briefly. Seems to have a US feeling about it. Is it just my impression?

I don't have that year version, the answer is almost certainly yes!.

    - there is a sequence for the UK banks
    - it offers to update [ before the installation ] when you click the setup button
    - let it do its update at that preinstall point, and it will download UK banks
    - then let it do its thing

    Hope this helps
