Hive (formerly Euphony) Telecom - WCLI?

I see Hive Telecom's £3.99/month Home Call Anytime calls package is now one of the recommended options in the Home Phones article and, at the price, it's pretty good value - so might tempt some people.

However, we all know that former CPS calls providers like Sky Talk, Orange, and AOL changed from having standard CPS offerings to using BT Wholesale's WCLI calls package to provide calls and how that effectively barred the use of the 1280 prefix and, thereby, prevented users making calls via BT even though they continued to pay line rental to them. All had at least BT's Unlimited Weekend Calls Plan so, had 1280 still been available, could have made the 2 calls per month necessary to 'qualify' for for free Caller Display and/or basic 1571 free of charge using that.

OK, long preamble, short question. Anyone know if Hive Telecom's Home Call Anytime calls package is the same - i.e. is it provided using BTW's WCLI?
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

  • I have tried to contact Hive Telecom over 10 times and they have not got back to me once. I would suggest you avoid them like the plague, as they look like an iffy company, and it may just end in tears for you :(

Been a customer since 1999 and am happy with the savings made so far. I've always been able to use the 1280, I looked on their website and couldn't see the information to confirm (no idea what WLCI means so I could just be looking in the wrong place!). On a separate note, I did notice that they're not raising their prices.

Line rental is £10.99 compared to BT's proposed £12.04.

I found the email address, help.uk@hivetelecom.com so maybe you should test the water first ;)

    Good luck!
  • These people used to be called Euphony. I have been with them since 2005. Don't know about 1280 stuff as never used it. As for service, I have had to wait a while occasionally when calling customer services, but no longer than calling SKY or any other service provider. I have had no cause to regret decision, so took line rental and broadband from them as well. So far OK.

Also they are hiring people all over the world to tele-spam people i.e. make unsolicited phone calls to people without their permission. See job adverts in loads of places such as http://www.i-freelancer.org/marketing/euphony-hive-telecom-u-k-sales-by-mehraamar/

  • I have been a client of Hive/Euphony for several years. They have a great international call plan, and is the only telephone company (that I have found so far) that allows us to call South Africa as one of the free countries. There are over 30 free countries on the plan. International calls are limited to 1500 min a month though but that is ample for us. Their website is a bit tricky to navigate but otherwise am happy with them.
