Training funding help

Hi

I am 26 and have been unemployed for 13 months now and have recently achieved my nvq 3 in Advice and Guidance. I am currently looking to do my nvq 4 as my volunteering role I have been doing for the last 6 months would enable me to hit the criteria to be able to do it. The problem is I cannot afford to use my savings again to be able to pay to put myself through another course. I have asked the jobcentre and they said ask pertemps, when i asked pertemps they said they wouldn't be able to fund it. I have asked adult connexions as I hear they have funding sometimes. I am not going to bother asking where I volunteer if they have funding as they are getting rid of staff at the moment.

I know its a long shot but if anyone has any suggestions where there could be possible funding could they please let me know.

Thanks

Matt

I'm sorry the jobcentre have no funding available and I'm sure most local education only offer free funding up to level 3 anyway.

I kind of thought they only funded up to level 3 as well. I just thought I would check just in case.

    Thanks for the reply
  • So you have the money in savings, but are not prepared to use it and want the tax payer to pick up the bill?

I don't think that is at all fair. The OP made it clear that they are reluctant to self-fund their training again - in other words they have self-funded so far, whilst also doing voluntary work experience to support the study (to say nothing of being a useful contributer to society). It is hardly their fault that they have been unemployed - the OP has taken the initiative and is doing something about it, and has already put their own money into doing so. After 13 months of unemployment, which I am afraid is far from uncommon even for people desperate and motivated to get back to work, I don't think it at all unreasonable that someone should be watching their quickly diminishing pennies to ensure that they can actually afford to do some of the basic things - like pay their bills and eat!

There may be no sources of support available for the OP, but it is hardly constructive to imply that they are a layabout or a scrounger. Perhaps, instead of undertaking voluntary work and training at their own expense, as they have already done, you would prefer them to sit around and do nothing, make no effort, not apply for jobs or training and actually scrounge off the tax payer - because then you could be justified in flinging around accusations?

Now you have actually achieved your NVQ3, have you looked for employment with it? Many guidance jobs only require the level 3 and some may actually offer training for level 4.

    Well, it's how it reads.

No accusations have been flung around.

Just a simple question thats all.

Well, it's how it (yours) reads. So if it wasn't your intention to imply that the OP is attempting to scrounge off the taxpayer by asking this - what exactly was your point?

Very simple. If I have savings and I don't want to use them, then why should I expect the tax payer to fund me?

    It really isnt difficult.

Sometimes people's perspectives need realigning with reality.

We don't live in a society where we can pick and choose what the state can fund.

I can see the last posters point as there are people who use the system to their advantage.

I have very little savings as I have been out of work for 13 months which is why I am asking about funding. I can't afford to pay monthly installments even if I put my very little savings which are left into it. I hate the fact I am asking about funding and believe it or not am a proud person and if I could pay for it trust me I really would. I feel I proved I am not a scrounge by paying for my level 3 even though I know if I looked hard enough there may have been funding for it. As I am out of employment there is even more need for me to keep building skills and qualifications and that is what I am trying to do. I am not someone sitting on their backside with no intention to work and not better themselves.

I have only recently passed in the last few weeks but have looked for jobs with it. Even before I passed I have applied for jobs within this type of role and even though I have experience in what I want to do I was told by employers I need qualifications to show for it. Which is understandable.

What sort of organisations are you hoping to work for?
