maximum MOT retest fee

Took my little corsa to garage at bottom of the road today. I normally use council one but its a couple of miles to council garage and car is not insured as been in garage since mot ran out and insurance company wanted £50 to put it on my current policy for A DAY so took it to local one.
Failed on couple of bulbs and rear wheel bearing and uneven front brakes and friend says they can fix it easy enough.
Anyway the garage charged £30 for the test but have said they charge £20 for resit fee if I dont have work done by them which I was not expecting.
Can they charge this much?

£30 sounds cheap for a test anyway. £54 is the RRP.

Well I always ask 1st about this, charging a for a retest is not good imo, and that garage will lose business even if they only charge £30 for the test itself, they probably charge that amount because they don't retain a large client base.

they can charge up to £54 for the test and the same for the retest if you take the car away for repair (apart from the statutory free retest items)

even with the retest you are still ahead

I only paid £18.95 for my MOT and they offered a free re-test :)

I have never seen an mot station charge the full amount listed above, don't think there are many outside of main dealers who would consider it to be honest, because I know I would walk if asked that amount, the average around where I am is 35>40 with a free retest within 10 days.
