existing santander customer

I am pretty P****d off that as an exisiting customer Santander are not offering me this £100 or interest rate, and when using my 'phone only' savings account earlier in the year I was told to go into my branch. I live on the Isle of Wight and my home branch is on the mainland!
Does anyone have any ideas how I could make Santander offer me this deal?
Changing accounts would be difficult, I'm just going to be made redundant

They won't, it is for new customers only I think.

Sounds like the scenario in that Nationwide advert a few years back: hook the new customers in and forget the existing customers. Hense why I've gone from them.

  • To be fair best deals always are to new customers as companies want to entice new business away from their rivals. It may well suck for existing customers but thats how they all do it.

I have just had my A&L account transitioned to Santander, which means I now have a walk in bank in my town whoo!!! I just popped into branch to deposit a cheque and the guy behind the counter just offered me the promotion to switch to one of the Santander branded accounts, offering me the promotional interest rate of 5% (though didn't mention the £100). I am tempted to take this offer up (though the overdraft rate after the first 4 mths is higher than my current rate so need to check this out). am a little confused though as (previously pointed out) I didn't think this was available to new customers????

According to the Ts and Cs of the link I have posted above, you cannot get the £100 for switching from A+L, B+B, Cahoot etc.

Yes, I checked the T&C too, which is why I thought it was odd that the guy at Santander was trying to sell me this account....

    It's not odd at all.

HE knows you won't get the £100 but he's hoping that you don't.

He probably gets some sort of commission for signing you up.

  • thanks all. For your information. Ihave had an account since I was 7 years old, have never been overdrawn or bought on credit(mortgage excepted) I worry constantly about money, I don't know how you guys can sleep at night if you owe money. I must be an 'ideal' customer for Santander. Now I'm redundant I won't be able to move accounts. What bank would want an unemployed person?
