Just finished Uni....

Hi Everyone!

I would appreciate any thoughts about what my next move should be.

I have just completed a BSC in Business Management and achieved a 2:1 degree so as you can imagine I'm over the moon!

However, my mum's just had major surgery and will require looking after for at least 6 months. I don't really want to start a new job and then ask for lots of time of to help her (it wouldn't be fair on new employers and I wouldn't burden them with that) and I don't have the cash to pay for a MSC course.

The thing is, I would like to continue my education in some capacity so that while looking after my mum, I will also have managed to do something that will help me get ahead once shes recovered.

I've thought about the Open University courses but they are extremely expensive.

Any thoughts/guidance about what my next move should be will be very much appreciated!

Have you thought about contacting a Student advisor at the university you have just left? They would be able to give you plenty of information and help on options available to you. If you are going to be a "carer" there may be funds available for you to use to fund part of the course?

How much care is she going to need and on what sort of basis? You might be better to consider doing some kind of part time, relevant work experience placement rather than another qualification.

I'd agree; I'd say work experience would be the way forward. Maybe see if you can get one or two days a week somewhere? Obviously explain your situation when you apply. Congrats on the 2:1!!
Never argue with an idiot; they'll bring you down to their level and then beat you with experience.

Congrats on the BSc. If you're not working, and are claiming the benefits you'd be entitled to as a carer, you may well find you don't have to pay any fees for your OU cours(es). They'll require evidence, but also they might be able to help you out with additional costs, so it's well worth doing.
