Planning a Lads Holiday to Amsterdam...

Hello all.

Me and 2 mates are thinking of going over to Amsterdam for a few days in September, thinking Thursday 2nd to Monday the 6th?

Never been before so just wondering where the best, cheap places to stay and whether anyone has any reccomendations?

People have mentioned youth hostels to us, which could be an option?

Not really bothered about the quality as long as we can get breakfast chucked in, a toilet and warm bed that'll do fine.

Location is more important so we are "in amongst it".

Not really familiar with the city itself and unsure of the best part of stay in.

I've had a look at flights, flying from either Bristol or Birmingham.

Flying from Bristol to Amsterdam with no checked in luggage works out at about £80 return with Easyjet, which isn't great but not too bad I guess.

Any tips appreciated from "seasoned veterans"

  • Hello mate!

I've been to Amserdam 3 times and stayed in a couple of different places.

For a lads holiday go for the bulldog hostel/hotel, they do 3 bed rooms as well as the bigger dorms. Breakfast is the usual dutch bread/cheese/meat/cereal. It's clean, has a safe feel and has an awesome bar area for hotel residents.

It's round the corner from Dam Square, over the canal from the red light district, there's a coffee shop 2 doors down as well (funnily enough a bulldog), with greenhouse over the road which has a great atmosphere!

If you're doing a coffee shop crawl, don't miss grey area to get some stuff, Abraxus, Barney's and De Dampkring!

    Have fun!!

We stayed in the Chic and Basic hotel. As it says, basic, from memory all have en suites. Stairs are steep internally.

It is very central. Breakfast lovely, reception fine.

They keep it cheap because it is a very basic option, no wardrobes, just a couple of hooks to hang things. White everything, and there is at no time more than two staff in the whole building. But it works!
