About to move into first flat - couple of questions

My girlfriend and I are about to move into our first leased flat together, previously I've only lived with parents or as a lodger with bills inclusive of rent.

It is a brand new flat and hasn't yet been occupied by anyone. It has gas central heating but I didn't check when viewing if it was metered electricity and gas or top-up, I am going to ring the letting agents to confirm. If it's metered, how much notice do we need to give a new supplier to hook us up? We get the keys on the 2nd of August and plan to move in and spend our first night there on the 3rd.

We're going to sign up to O2 for phone and broadband (phone wiring is installed already we're told) and I work in online marketing so having internet access as soon as possible is quite vital. Should I phone them in advance and try to arrange for them to connect us up on the 3rd? I think it's unlikely they will send the router to another address before the connection though.

I wold have thought that it would be very unlikely that it would be set up on a pre payment meter if thats what your asking, unless its a bedsit, well in my expereince anyway.

All of your supplies will (should) be connected, it will simply be a case of asking letting agent who supplier is, getting in flat, using appliances, to check they work and contact suppliers to give them your details and meter readings.
Debt free since July 2013! Woo hoo! The bank actually laughed when I said I have come in to cancel my overdraft.

Imagine the phone isn't connected though. If you have a signed contract in theory you can sign up now for broadband.
