It will only be used for editing images really , I have an 18 mega pixel SLR and take lots of raw files at airshows and alike . Sometimes 12 gigs of images to process in abode lightroom.

My current PC cannot handle it very well, so I need to get a new one.

With regards to budget , I need to get the computer , so really just want something that could do the job well for the best price.

I have a large widescreen monitor already , so thats not needed.

thx

best price for the job is a bit open,

according to the minimum system requirements for lightroom it can run on a pentium 4 however it woul be slow, yet you could buy a nice system with a core i7 12gb of ram etc that will be monster quick and cost over £1000 or anywhere inbetween,

if you can give an idea on price you can spend we can then begin arguing between ourselfs what the best comprimises are for your budget to get you the best spec

on a £100 shop you might on average get 70 items save
    10p per product = £7 a week ~ £28 a month
    20p per product = £14 a week ~ £56 a month
30p per product = £21 a week ~ £84 a month (or in other words one weeks shoping at the new price)

If you looking to buy new pc I think that paying over £700 for any computer is bit much since the technology changes so fast.
You should be able to get a cheaper pc that would handel the tasks you are trying on your old one. Maybe getting sumone local to custom build you a computer mine cost me around £500 and it runs photopshop, Illustrator, Dreamweare and some other with no problem.

"Now I just have a 2 year old p4" -that was a poor spec 2 years ago, any dual core system would be a major improvement eg. e5400/e6500 cpu. How much ram are you limping along with??
Maybe your current m/board could support a better cpu. Use cpu-z to find m/bo make/model.

    haha always fun

well in my mind the Dell one you are looking at is quite good, the raid on the hard drives might be a bit over the top for you - however only you can make that choice so would be worth reading up on raid.

had a quick look around and basing it on a budget of around £800 - and yes you can get a good system for less which would be up to the task quite easily i understand the fact that if you can get better bits now that will last you longer it can be worth it as you might not have the money in the future to update it to keep up with the advancing new tech, anyways

quick look on DinoPC's custom build section and have specced the following
    core i7 860
    Asus P7P55-M mobo
    8GB DDR3 1333mhz RAM
2 x 1TB hard drives not in raid
    normal DVDRW
ATI 4550 - since no gaming has been stated and your program does not use GPU acceleration didnt think it mattered having such a low GPU
    Antec 300 case
    Corsair VX 550 CPU
Windows 7 home prem 64bit ofc
    for £786.20 + £25 delivery

as you can see its close to the dell one but with the possible advantages of more RAM better case and PSU - but of course has no raid and a lower powered GPU - my personal thoughts are that these would be worth while trade offs but i am sure someone will disagree :p

Well if graphics were important, he could drop the i7 for an i5, save £100 for the graphics card :D

    Otherwise good spec!

Edit: Of course I'm bias (I have one :D) get an extra couple of hundred and get
