    This Thread: argumentum ad misericordiam

there's a lot of it about. most of the anti benefits threads are that in (thinly veiled) disguise.

I suspect that very, very few people are single throughout their adult life. It must be sad to reach old age never having lived with anyone.

it must be sad giving up 2/3 of your wages and your home to the woman\man who left you. :D

depends whether you think the risk of picking the wrong guy is worse than the risk of missing the right one.

personally i think you gotta be in it to win it.

I left my exH and walked away from my share of everything. I don't think this is an simple as a choice between coupledom and singledom for cost saving purposes really. It's cheaper for me to be in a couple now, but it certainly wasn't when i was married to a complete bell end.

No pity here :) - If the right woman comes along, then great! If not, then I'll continue to be happy!

    is child benefit welfare?

for someone with 3 children that's nearly £2,500 they're receiving from tax payers...

some would also describe child tax credits as welfare....

No, child benefit isn't welfare. Or if so, every single person in this country has been on welfare - except for recent immigrants.

I don't get child tax credits. So what some would describe them as is a bit immaterial.

Then we met each other and got married.
