Alliance & L and Virgin Any Connection??

When trying to do a balance transfer to my egg cc, when I input the account number of my Alliance & Leicester card it says Virgin.
Egg have replied to my query saying the A&L card may be issued through Virgin and I should contact Virgin to check this before doing the transfer.
I know the A&L card is through MBNA, so anyone know why Virgin comes up on Egg`s system (I checked I had input the number right about 20 times) and what would happen if I continued with the BT anyway.
Thanks

Virgin is MBNA as well.0

If Eggs system brings up Virgin and not MBNA, surely it should bring up A&L.
Knowing the account is through MBNA IF Eggs system had said MBNA or A&L I would have hit the button, but Virgin does not make any sense to me. It does`nt sound like Egg have much idea either.
Their suggestion that I ring Virgin with whom I have no connection rather than ring A&L or MBNA also seems odd.
Any thoughts???0 -
It sounds to me that Egg have just entered "Virgin" against the sort code when they should have put "MBNA". At a guess a list of sort codes and names was input into their database. If the same sort code is shared between all the MBNA cards then it kept being overwriten and ended up being the last one entered.
All that matters is that the sort code is correct. Double check that and go ahead if it is. The name is not used.0 -
I input, not the sort code....0

Ah yes, just had a look and see what you mean.
Well another option could be to select the current account option instead as it then lets you input all the details yourself, so you can put in all the A&L sort code/accounts nos.
I think I'd just risk it though and go ahead with you way you were doing it, ignoring the "Virgin" message. It's the same group and the account number should direct it to the right place.
Of course if it goes horribly wrong this isn't me typing. It's a hacker who got control of my login details for a day. Honest.0 -
I agree with Reaper, the first 4 or 8 digits of the card number are an identifier code, just like a bank sort code, the Egg database is most likely wrong.
Computers  , just wait till someone disrupts the national grid. eeek
HTHs or have I missed the pointMoi....?

This happened to me also some months ago, when I went to transfer a balance from my old Abbey card to Egg. I put in the a/c number and it through up "Alliance & Leicester". I just went ahead with it though and it all went ok.0

mbna sort code is 086130 for all their branded cards - A/L, Virgin, Abbey etc
mistake is with egg im sure but as reaper says providing the sortcode is correct it will be fine and dandy0
