Redundancy worries

Ive been with my current employer for 20 years (NHS) things are looking a bit bleak at the moment and we have had a briefing a few weeks ago informing us what the current situation was with our hospital.
Things are not looking good and to be honest there was no real good news. Now in this meeting there was a option for staff to apply for voluntary rudundancy, however, this only involved staff on a higher grade, such as management. If these 'higher grade' staff were successful they would get a month a year for each completed year that they had worked up to a maximum of 24 months pay (tax free I think)
Now, im not fortunate to 'apply' for the voluntary redundancy so I have to sit it out and wait and see how things pan out.
Had a chat with the union today about this situation and was informed that public service staff from October 2010 would receive a week and half redundancy payout, if over the age of 41, 22 to 40 would receve a week a year and 18 to 22 eould get 1/2 a week a year. this would be a maximum of up to 30 weeks.
If this redundancy package was offered to me today and i applied and was successful i would proberly get around £27k for the 20 months per year I had worked. However, when October comes this would go down to £3600. Now I do not want redundancy what ever as I really need my job, I have 15 years of mortgage to pay plus the debt i already have. but my point is there is a big difference to the £27K and £3600. Unfortunatley I do not fall in the higher grade bracket to make the most of this, even if I wanted to!

All the big powers they've silenced me. So much for free speech and choice on this fundamental human right, and outing the liars.

when it comes to the tax free bit - it's only the first 30k that is tax free.... (not relevant here, but just for information)...
i work for the NHS and our bosses and union are saying they dont know what will happen to payouts in the future. there is no way of knowing what the government want to do, nor any way of knowing how fast they can push legislation through parliament.
are you clinical or office based, as although everyone will have to go in the PCT's the nurses etc will mostly still be needed... they could not run the hospitals without them...
where i am there are (hopefully) enough people that willl want to go to stop the need for forced redundancies, but as i am PCT based we will all be gone soon enough.
Stashbuster - 2014 98/100 - 2015 175/200 - 2016 501 / 500 2017 - 200 / 500 2018 3 / 500

Um, I work for a PCT and would really like to know more about what is allegedly happening in October!!
Agenda for Change terms and conditions gives one month per year of service.0 -

Thank you, I would very much like to see a copy of that. Those terms and conditions are the old ones prior to the review in 2006.0
