Hi Apologies if this has been covered before but I cant find a previous thread.
I have a vauxhall radio which displays safe only just purchased car.
The hand book reads to leave on for a number of hours and you should be able to re enter the code, this doesn't happen have left on 24hrs with no joy.
Any ideas how to unblock?

Can depend on the model. But the safe mode normally means the electrical supply to the radio has been disconnected (battery change ?) and it needs the 4 digit code entering to unlock it. Often they can display safe with a number which shows the amount of attempts you can have.

Again depends on the model but you need to be sure you have the correct instructions as the process varies between radio types. Often you get 10 attempts with a vauxhall, when you get down to 7 attempts left it takes 3 hours with the ignition and radio on. Once you've had you 10 attempts it freezes.

Make sure you have the code and know how to do it before you start.

Now this winds me up.... VX and most other manufacturers have radios which not only have been coded into the cars ECU, but are also purpose made to fit only that type of car..... Why apart from to make a quick £20-£50 are the radio's security coded?

Do you have the code? I had this problem with my old zafira. If I remember correctly:

    Turn radio off
hold down the on button and the AS button
It should then beep & you can input the code.

I think that is it, I hope I haven't forgotten any steps. I don't have the car any more, but it used to suddenly go and I would have to do it again.

The radio code will be on the car pass which you should have got with the car.
If you didn't get the car pass, then it's a trip to the Vx dealer to obtain one I'm afraid.

Prices for a replacement pass vary between dealers, but I've never seen one who wants more than £30 + the vat.

The radio is for a corsa (car200) it is a 1999 (t) model year I have the radio code and have tried to leave on 24hrs but still displays safe I think it may have had the code incorrectly entered before I bought the car.
May be best to get a good second hand set as a vauxhall exchange set is £120.

£120 for a basic Vauxhall CD player! o_O

Bloody hell, you could get an aftermarket one that takes MP3 CDs and can connect up to an iPod or mobile phone for less than that

True, I have my standard Ford fitted as has everything I want and looks so much better than an after market.

However, near us, there is a car shop selling a CD/Radio face off unit with MP3 plug in for £49.99!!!

Will even fit it for free!

It is possible to get aftermarket radios for a decent price that aren't all silver bling-tastic crap.

While I hate to recommend them, I was in my local Halfrauds the other day and they carried some brand I'd never heard of but all their radios were made out of a fairly matte black plastic in a chunky but minimalistic design and the only thing you could consider "bling" was the ability to change the illumination colour to one of your choice, presumably to match your dashboard lights.

I was seriously considering getting one to replace my 10 year old ugly silver+black MP3 CD player that I've had in about 10 different cars over the years but ultimately decided against it as it's not broken yet.
  • you need to turn radio on and hold in button marked a s at same time until bleep is herd then it will tell you how many atemps left enter code by push button 1 to set firist digit button 2 for 2nd 3 for 3rd 4 for 4th then push a s again to accept code.
