This one or the diary?
I have so many! lol
This place is my habit!
I know what you mean about missing out on the deals, I go into places looking for the BOGOF offers!
Surely that defeats the object.
Plus I feel like I'm being watched "strangely" if I walk out without buying anything!Wealth is not measured by currency0 -
I seem to have terrible trouble if i 'pop' into Tesco with my card on me, I can't seem to walk out with just the pint of milk I went in for, damn Tesco's !!! The other day I spent over 6 quid on mags and a smoothieVIRGIN CC [STRIKE] £648.87[/STRIKE]PAID OFF 08-09-09 :j

Bells,
I definitely know that feeling.
Hence the £36 I've already given to Tesco this month so far, and I dont seem to have any food!Wealth is not measured by currency0 -
I'm new at this "not spending" lark but I have found that it helps to use the "pay at pump" option at Tesco or Asda so no need to go into the petrol station and be tempted by mags, sweets etc.
I won't go into Boots as that used to be a big weakness of mine - I loved the extra Advantage points coupons for minimum spend of £25 etc and it seemed like I was double saving if I bought lots of BOGOFs but I now have cupboards full of toiletries and I'd rather have the cash to pay off some of my debts. So I am saving my Advantage points until nearer Christmas and will use them for present buying (hoping they do the 3 for 2 offers again this year).0 -

I dont think Boots could "not" do the 3 for 2!
But at least you wont NEED to spend any money on toiletries in the near future. So anything you would have budgetted for them in the next coming months can be spent on debts instead!
I trick myself into believing I'm doing myself a favour tho. Always convince myself, well I'd need to buy some eventually anyway etc.
New trick, dont go into any more shops.......... ever!Wealth is not measured by currency0 -

I meant your diary
Bells - boots was a weakness of mine but I have started to think wait a minute I already have 6 spare tubes of toothpaste, 5 toothbrushes, 4 bottles of body wash... You are right CAFCGirl that it is the BOGOFs and the feeling that would need to buy it in the future anyway so should buy it now to save!!
I've recently started using this urge spending to look out for Christmas present bargains and stock up on those! I only hope that I do end up being able to give them people and they don't just spend years languishing at bottom of present box :rotfl:0 -

Awwww thanx very muchI've recently started using this urge spending to look out for Christmas present bargains and stock up on those! I only hope that I do end up being able to give them people and they don't just spend years languishing at bottom of present box :rotfl:
Yeah me too, but now I seem to have an awful lot of christmas presents lol!
But I even now go looking for them! So I'm still trying to find something to spend my money on, when my main aim was to not spend.......
However have just seen a gorgeous pair of boots! £35 but oh so yum. I have promised myself I will only buy them with proceeds from ebay! Well I've promised myself that today...........
We'll see what happens tomorrow!
Speaking of the xmas thing though, I really must go thru mine and see what I've got for who, otherwise I perpetually buy for the same easy to buy for people, and still have to hunt for things in december!Wealth is not measured by currency0 -
I've been trying to figure out what my trigger is today. I haven't though.... I don't know what it is. I'm generally pretty cheery so it's not a mood booster thing. Today I went in a few shops to buy things for the folks though and every time I was tempted I just thought "do I want this more than to get rid of the debt? Er no". I'm sure I'll become immune to that soon though
2 for 3 and bogof are a real killer though :mad:DFW Nerd #104 I :heartpuls my Kittenand my hat :heartpuls

lol @ Peaches....
You did well hun!
I'm sure it's partly just a habit breaking thing. Obv for a lot of us, getting into as much debt was due to not thinking carefully enough bout our purchases!
But it's just so much time and effort...........
Although second time in two days I've been into HMV and not spent anything. I must be doing something right!
Best of luck to everyone else on fighting the urge.
Maybe we can start to use this thread as a way of figuring out our own triggers and putting up any hints and tips that we're learning along the way to break this nasty spending habit of ours!Wealth is not measured by currency0
