10 digit phone numbers

Has anyone else got a 10 digit BT phone number? I have, as have lots of people around here and I'm sure around the country too. Lots of websites don't accept them, and I end up having to put my mobile number in, which I'd really rather not do. And what about people who don't use mobile numbers? Ridiculously enough, I've just used the BT Openreach feedback form and that's the same, I ended up entering 11 zeros and putting my BT number into one of the message boxes.

If this applies to you too, how do you get round it?

Yes. My B.I.L. on the outskirts of Lancaster has a 10-digit phone number.

I'd suggest you just put the 10 digits in and then add a random digit on the end (anyone dialling it will still get through, the last digit will be ignored by the telephone system).
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

Thank you, I hadn't realised that the phone system would ignore it, wonderful idea.

Locally it's a mix of 10 and 11 digit, with 11 being those most recently connected. I think the majority of numbers in this country are now 11 digit. I've come across this problem on websites several times, and for the BT one not to accept its own 10 digit numbers is just silly!

I too thought these were a thing of the past, but came across Vodafone's geographic head office number on SayNoto0870's website: 01635 33251.

Obviously there's a few odd pockets around the country that continue to have 5-digit local numbers.
