Building a Brick Shed - Foundations

Hi,

Me and a mate are planning to build a brick shed in the back of my garden, its approx 3m wide by 2.5m deep, and wont be any higher than 2.5m high.

the main thing we need to get right is the base / foundations. how deep should my footings / foundations be? its only going to be a single story building and i would imagine they wouldn't have to be too deep, i'm thinking 300mm? if anybody could offer some advice it would be great.

i apologise if this has been asked before i did try to search for this but i couldnt find anything.

The depth of foundations dependent on the soil.

300mm will just be taking the topsoil off, and for strip foundations you probably need to go down at least another 300mm and see if the ground is firm at that level

If you are forming a raft foundation (ie one big contrete slab which is the floor and walls are built off it) then you wont need to go down as far, but still need to remove the top soil layer

I agree with iamcornholio. I built my brick workshop nearly 30 years ago and it has not moved at all. The footings were at least 600mm deep and the slab was poured at the same time as the strip foundation. Getting the foundations wrong is the one thing that you cannot risk.
I can afford anything that I want.
Just so long as I don't want much.
