Solicitor charges......

Hi

We are currently in the process of sorting out paperwork on a house we have offered on. The solicitor charges are £625 plus VAT, does this sound about right?

We are renting, so there is no paperwork on a selling side just for buying the property.

Thanks

  • It depends who you've gone with but yes I'd say this was about normal.

Mine was the solicitor's fee of around £250plus VAT and then there were all the dissembursements which I'm presuming are inclusive or exclusive of VAT.

Depends on the purchase price, ours was £625+VAT + disbursements for a £275K property
  • Oh yeah that's a good point. I can only go off my own charges for a FTB property at the other end of the market ;)
  • Hi

My fees are £300 + VAT and searches on a £123000 property (FTB). I rang round nearly every local solicitor and compared all. Beware though, make sure you ask for a list of all disbursements as some have 'extras' that are not included and then give you the option of paying for them.

I also went with one that was 'no fee if you don't complete'. This turned out to be a godsend as 3 properties fell through and although I didn't get my disbursement money back I'd paid for, the solicitor didn't charge me.

Hopefully this house will complete no problems!
