Thanks Ames and sorry Mrs Gibbs ... shows how much I don't know about carer's allowance!! [Assume you are also well versed in DLA/AA, so I'll not go there either]

Just a wee bit, but thanks for thinkin of us tho, it's nice when others care. anyhow, it also means you've learnt something u can pass onto others too! ;)

Well, bit the bullet today & found another bank to open a joint, single & business accounts with.
They were lovely, especailly when I explained why we wanted the new accounts & that we really wanted to pay off our debts (to another bank) without getting into more!
She was suprised when our credit score came back glowing after what I'd said (I'm guessing dispite our large debt because we've not defaulted (yet) our credit score is not bad??) but happily agreed the standard accounts were a good choice, no overdrafts on any of them either!!

Now to begin the process of changing all our D/D etc accross, they did offer to do it but I wanted to, just to make sure it all went ok...

Thanks again everyone, for all the advice... we're on a steep learning curve (hubby more so than me) but with all your support I know things will improve rapidly

Have been through the Debt Remedy on the CCCS site & their advice is a DMP, so we've requested to proceed & are currently awaiting their e-mail to confirm & go through more details.
A bit worried about it and hope that because all the debt is with one bank they will freeze the interest enabling us to actually get out of this mess intead of adding to it.
Thanks once again for all the support, it's so good to know we're not alone!

    Hi Mrs Gibbs,

I'm glad your on the road to becoming debt free. If you require any more advice or assistance just post a thread on the forum or alternatively, add to this one.

    Good Luck
If you've nothing decent to say, perhaps you shouldn't say anything.

If you're working 16 hours a week, and only earning £280 a month you are earning a lot less than the minimum wage (£5.80 an hour if age 22 or more). You should be getting at least £92.80 a week.

No, never had PPI on any loans as I was a homemaker and hubby is self employed, didn't see the sense in paying for an unusable porduct.. they did try hard to get us to have it tho!! ;)

I'm a self employed housekeeper (I normally do 16 hrs in the holidays I can only do 9hrs) so currently (at least till sept) I'll make around £72 per week but I also have to deduct fuel of at least £20 per week plus any products I need!

What sort of business is it that your husband runs/ran?

Also, earlier in the thread you said the business failed so why does he need a business bank account?
