would you invite me to interview?

Hi all,

a job I have been waiting on coming up for ages has come up and typical timing but I am 30 weeks pregnant and already on maternity leave!

Question - would you invite me to interview and even give me the job???

I am on paid maternity leave up until March next year. I seriously doubt I will get anywhere with it if I apply but would like some thoughts...

:D

they shouldn't discriminate but it is very unlikely that you will be the 'best candidate'. However it maybe worth it so they know you so that come March time if there is a similar job then they should remember you

If I were to apply... what should I say in a covering letter? - I would need to make them aware of my pregnancy obviously but given the employer and type of job it is, they should not be discriminatory like you said. Would it be wise to ask them to keep my details on record and please consider me for the next vacancy that comes up in my area? I know it is only casual but I need flexible hours to fit in with my OH's shifts so am not worried about it being casual at all.

Here is the link to the job :)

Unlikely I'm afraid. Unfortunately I don't think you could call this discrimination either. The fact that you would not be able to take up the post until March 2011 (no matter what the reason) is a valid reason for rejecting your application. No employer is going to recruit to fill a vacant post and then leave that post sitting empty for 8 months until you are able to start work, or rather no employer should be expected to do this. It's bad timing, but there will be other jobs.

Have you thought through the whole maternity leave side of it?
You would need to leave your current employer for a new job hence your maternity pay would be affected.

I'd invite you to interview, if you met our shortlisting criteria, but then with an anonymised form I wouldn't know you were pregnant. However, that's for where I work, if I was recruiting for this post one of the questions would be "How soon can you start?" and the answer "Next March" would probably mean a "thanks but no thanks".

They won't know. They may well suspect. But you might just be obese.

I'd apply anyway, then put in your application letter that you would be unable to start until March due to other commitments.

If you get an interview and they like you, then perhaps you'll be considered if a similar job came up next year? Or perhaps they'll hold the position open for you if they don't find a better candidate?

It really depends on the type of job it is and the company.
Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)

It is working for Bounty as a photographer/distributor of baby packs to new mums & babies in hospital... lol! which is what I will be in about 10 weeks... :D

Likely that the person who gives me my pack/takes the photo of baby will be the person who got the job :rotfl:
