- Who is supplying the lights and sockets and what specification are they?
- Where are each of the items being placed?
- Where are the lights to be switched from?
- What distances are involved to each of the items?

I amassuming that the outside sockets are of the all-weather variety...These type of sockets come is various specifications, to just plain versions that have a cover, but cannot accept a plug with the cover down, and thus they can only be used in fair weather...another type is able to have a plug plugged in, and then the cover closes with the plug in, sealing the socket and plug from from the elements...Furthermore, some have switches, some do not, some incorporate integral RCDs, some incorporate fused connection units.
The price range can be from around £8 for very basic, to around £50 each....therefore this can seriously affect the overall price.
Additionally, are the lights to be fitted to the exterior of the house, or elsewhere, as this will impact the price.
Also, what type of cabling has been specified...Is it steel wire armoured, or is the cabling to be run in conduit, or something else, i.e buried etc..
The distances of the cable runs will affect the overall costs as well.
Finally, does the quote state any additional remedial work to the installation required, i.e. upgrade to main bonding, RCD installation etc.

If you don't have RCD protection already within your fuseboard part of the cost might include providing this - best to check or get another price to compare.0

thanks for everyone's replies.
We have had several other quotes and the first quote WAS high!! We are now being quoted on average £170 for exactly the same job. Our electrics system already had the rcd protection as it was only updated last year so it's all fairly new still.
The lights are to be fitted to the outside of the house and don't have far to travel at all but the sparky did say each socket is just over £40 and so with the amount of work we are happy with the quotes of £170.0
