i've been looking for an external drive , but hadn't considered whether i would need a sata or an ide drive......... is there a quick and easy way to check which drive is fitted in my home pc ?
it is a dell dimension 5150 (i think) probably about 4 years old.
    thanks for any help.

If you are buying a complete external unit it doesn't matter what type of drive is inside it since you will connect it to your PC via a USB port (or potentially some other interface like Firewire)

Why do people have to try and put the original posters down?

If you have a better deal make a new thread and tell everyone about it, don't jump on anothers offer and say it's not good or it's not cheap, we can make our own decisions on if we think it's right for us or not.

quoia, must have put quite a bit of effort into making that post with all the discount detail.

    Maxtor DiamondMax Plus 10 NCQ 320GB 6V320F0 SATA-II 16MB Cache - OEM

i never go to highstreet for any computer parts these days

btw maxtor disks (well for me) have been VERY unreliable. Not sure if they have improved much recently but I work in IT and if a computer fails with a disk issue.. its got 80% chance of having a maxtor disk in it... so persionally i would go for Seagates or WD disks..

Agree up to a point, but if a better deal is available elsewhere I think there is nothing wrong with adding it to someone else's post (if done in a polite and helpful way, rather than putting down the OP's deal).

If the basic aim of this site is to help people save money then surely anything done to that end is acceptable.
  • It's cheaper on ebuyer.com tbh. :) I just bought a 500GB SATA II with NCQ for ~£154. The price went up by £20 within the space of 1hr after ordering! :o
