Leaking roof

Hope someone here can help. I have a leak on a flat roof - the ceiling below is swollen.
It seems to have happened since my son got up there at Christmas time to put up fairy lights - not sure whether that's a coincidence.
I have full contents and structural insurance. Can I claim for the repair to the roof? Can I claim for repair to the ceiling?
I've never made a claim before so don't know what's involved - please advise if you can!
Thanks.
