Xbox, Playstation or Nintendo?

I posted this on another thread but thought i would post it here too for a wider perspective

I am debating wether to buy an Xbox 360, wait a short while for the new Nintendo wii or wait till next year for the Playstation 3. I already have the Playstation 2.

What are your views on these consoles? Any ideas on the best place to buy?

All advice would be appreciated,
Many Thanks

Shaun

You could get an Xbox, and a Nintendo for the price of a PS3.

My brother is a manager of a Gamestation shop. Recently, we were talking about these boxes. He said his personal choice would be an Xbox, then consider a PS3 once it had been out for a while, and the price was more reasonable. He mentioned some new games deal that means the Xbox will have a much bigger choice of top games over the PS3.

  • i have been recommended by a friend of mine to take my slimline ps2 with a few games and consider like a part exchange for a new console? Is he right, can that be done or would i be better of trying to sell it on ebay or something?

The X360 is very nice. Still lacking a decent selection of games though. There are definitely 3 or 4 excellent games that I'm sure will keep you occupied for some time to come. Oblivion is quite possibly one of the best games I've ever played.

I'm curious as to how the Wii will turn out. It certainly puts a different tilt on gaming. It'd probably be my choice of system, although I won't be getting rid of my X360.

I think Sony have tried to go a bridge too far. The system is due nearly a year and a half after the X360 was released. It costs a lot, and includes unproven technology (namely Blu-Ray). Plus they still don't have anything like Xbox Live which excellent (and well worth the subscription fee).

Do you have a decent display? If so and if films are important to you then Blu-Ray may well be worth having but to be honest I would have thought most home cinema fanatics would want to get a seperate blu-ray or HDDVD player anyway. If home cinema isn't your thing then I doubt the blu-ray part of it will interest you that much anyway.

For this reason I would say go for the Xbox as it's going to work out a lot cheaper.

As far as your PS2 goes I would consider ebay if I were you as I doubt you'll get a great trade in deal. After getting a chipped xbox from my brother at xmas I sold my PS2 (original version, not slimline) with a few games on ebay for £80 which I was happy about.
