Insurance co. using bank details

Hi
Wasnt sure where to put this, banking, insurance or this one so here goes.
I took out an insurance policy with Swinton Insurance and paid a deposit by debit card back in November 2009. I cancelled the policy at the end of June and as they wouldnt over me at a new address they said i wouldnt have to pay any penalty for cancelling a new policy. They also said they would write to me if they owed me anything or vice versa.
I cancelled my direct debit with the bank, then Swinton write to say i owe them £12 for cancelling the direct debit, then they write saying i owe them £30 which includes an amount of "discount" i received at the start of the policy.
I query this and hear nothing, until i check my bank account and they have taken the £30 from my account, they have used the card details given in November 2009.
I could just leave it and write it off as a bad mistake to use Swinton in the first place, but what concerns me is the number of places that i have paid a deposit or full balance and they are keeping details for possible future use.
Any advice
