Flat rented - unfair room prices
Comments

That is very much life really: look at what people pay to buy houses, cars and pay for travel.... He who does his research, gets I early and negotiates the hardest gets the best deal.... At the end of the day you have to make your own deal, be happy with it and don't get hung up on the deals made by others... (although tbem...).
Two Christmases ago husband and I flew to Los Angeles. We flew British Airways in First Class for a little under £400 each (plus air miles). There would have been a lot of people in Economy Class (and Premiun Economy and Business Class who paid more than that.... Should I have swapped seats with them? If you look at "fairness due to what was paid" then yes... But no: they got their deal and I got mine...

I don't understand why she is saying she'll look for another place, I think it was just a reaction.
You can carry on looking for the perfect deal until you're old and grey and this flat is good but thanks for the life lessons!
If it was me in a much better room I would feel incredibly guilty and I would never be as childish or selfish to just say "I got there first".
I was really looking for advice about whether it's possible to negotiate with the landlady. The landlady's answer that the price was fixed because of the solicitor didn't sound quite right to me.
The position at the moment is that my girlfriend has moved in before the contract starts while one girl who was in the flat last year is away. She has agreed to a draft or pre-contract as far as I am aware but definitely hasn't signed the proper contract or payed the deposit.0 -

There are many examples of where two people have bought identical houses in the same place from the same developer and paid 10s of thousands more or less than their neighbour. Its just the way things are and moaning about how unfair it all is makes one sound like a five year old whos friend gets a bigger lollipop.0

Why is that? If I have been there first, and both rooms are the same price, I would get to choose first.
When I was in college and stayed with a landlady, she let out 3 rooms and all 3 rooms were the same price. I arrived first (just a couple of days earlier) and I got the biggest room. The second girl choose the second biggest room, etc...
When I left, whoever that is left get to choose to move to my room or not....she has the priority.
Besides, life just isn't always about fair.0 -
i think you're a nice boyfriend though for caring about your girlfriend0

She could move out and find somewhere else, but she isn't in a position to do that. The landlady won't budge on the price, I'm not sure what advice you are looking for?
£313 seems a pretty decent price to me, I'm not sure where she is living but for a nice flat in a nice area I'd say that is a pretty decent deal
