More and more of my friends are telling me to start shopping at Aldi, but Im still not sure. Currently I shop at Tescos, but as always looking to save money where I can!

Anyone rate Aldi? Is it worth a try?

I get all my brand name stuff I can't live without at tescos and then stock up on everything else at Aldi - it's loads cheaper and most of the stuff is very nice it's def worth a try.

If you are a brand tart then don't even bother.

There are certain things also in Aldi which do suffer due to a lack of choice, such as nappies and cleaning products, as if the quality of one is awful, e.g. the nappies, you do not have a choice of another brand.

The quality of the meat, yoghurts, cooked meat especially, and frozen ready meals and food is very very good though.

Decent "non branded" booze as well!

You will see brands that you will not recognise, but that does not mean they are no good.

Every thing is worth trying once.
I used to be indecisive but now I am not sure.

You could always read and follow the thread that's discussed ALDI (and LIDL) for the best part of 5 years :) - since Nov 2005

I prefer Lidl to Aldi. NZ legs of lamb, frozen, at great prices. Cheap German chocolate that tastes great. And every now and then half price on veg and fruit.
  • I was always an Asda/Tesco/Sainsburys girl, went around the 3 picking up offers, then I moved house & have a Aldi 2 mins down the road.

I started shopping there as it was so convenient & now do my weekly shop there topped up with a few bits from Asda ect.
Nothing my boyfriend & I have tried from there has disapointed up, the fresh lasagne is gorgeous, garlic bread only 47p, yogurts, fruit & veg, milk is much cheeper, cat litter nearly £1 less than the one I used previously & for the exact same standard. I would totally recomend you try it, you can spend £20 & have meals, I can do that in Asda/Tesco & still have nothing to eat!!

I've done the vast majority of my shopping at Aldi for many years now. On average I'd say the quality of the products they sell is better than the likes of Tesco, and they're a bit cheaper. A few years ago they were a lot cheaper, but sadly that's no longer the case.

I used to shop at Aldi often when we had one two miles away, sadly no more. I mainly bought their fresh vegetables & fruit as they were super quality and cheaper than Sainsburys. Their fresh flowers were lovely, too. Naturally their dry stuff like flour/sugar/salt is a no brainer as it's far cheaper than any of the supermarket value ranges. Oh and don't forget each Thursday when they have their bargain job lot of homewares/clothing/garden stuff/electrical on a WIGIG (like Lidl do). You can tell I was quite a fan of Aldi!

We do a monthly Asda online shop for things that we can't get from Aldi (i.e. branded goods - of course those items that'll last a month!). The Harvest Moon range of cereal are absolutely fine.

There are a number of products we've tried but wouldn't buy again. I Really didn't like the mince! However, chicken is fine and the chicken drumsticks are great for the BBQ!

Smithster, if you are a Tesco shopper then don't expect to get everything you need in a weekly Aldi shop and don't expect everything to be of the same quality that you are used to. But definately give it a go!
