in Credit cards
Hi,
I'm wondering if anyone has done this before. I need to help a family member out and make a payment to 2 of their credit cards this month, they live elsewhere in the country and they are having problems with their bank account so I can't transfer them the money.
I need to make a payment to Barclaycard and Mint, I have their card details, security code, expiry etc. Can I just go into Barclays with this information and make a payment onto their credit card? And as for Mint, could that be done through a RBS branch?
Thanks for your time

Internet/Telephone banking would be a lot easier. Do you have it?0

I've got internet banking through my Lloyds current account, I have the option of paying a bill and can search for Mint and Barclaycard, but I assume that would only work for accounts set up in my name?
Think it only gives you the option of specifying a reference number which they couldn't find0 -
Reference No is usually the account no. Doesn't matter whose name it is in.Mama read so much about the dangers of drinking alcohol and eating chocolate that she immediately gave up reading.0

The payment details will (almost certainly) be on the back of their statements. You need:
Sort Code
Account No (a collection account number containing 8 digits)
Reference (this is their 16 digit card number)
...and that's it!0 -
I've just checked my online banking site and I can pay pretty much any card by using the credit card number as the reference number (once the type of card has been selected).
Hope this helps!0 -
Cool, I'll give that a go tomorrow then..
Thanks a lot for your time0 -
You can pay anyone's card from your online banking. The reference number is the card number. You don't need their security number.
MINT is sort code: 16-89-93, account number: 00000000, reference number: < their card number > . Account number 98390019 works too where online banking doesn't accept the 8 0's.
Barclaycard is 20-04-15, account number: 38290008, reference number: < their card number>. http://ask.barclaycard.co.uk/help/brochure/1_creditcards/pay_bill
This'll work with Mint and Barclaycard. I've just recently helped a relative clear both these cards early by doing exactly that."A child of five could understand this. Fetch me a child of five." - Groucho Marx0 -
Thanks CannyJock, this is really useful0
