Win XP Welcome Screen problem

I wonder if anyone can give me some advice on this problem please.

I have a little used laptop running Win XP. I used it this morning and it was OK. However this evening, when I switched it on, the normal ‘Welcome Screen’ did not appear; and instead a sign-on box consisting of boxes for a name and password appeared.

I managed to sign on and went to control panel – user accounts – and clicked ‘change the way users log on or off’ icon.

This produced the following error message:
A recently installed program has disabled the Welcome Screen and Fast User Switching. To restore these features you must uninstall the program that made the change. The following file name might help you to identify the program that made the change C:\WINDOWS\system32|BCMLogon.dll
I have found the program in Windows but there is no record of it being modified and ‘properties’ states it was installed in 2006.

I am loath to uninstall something when I don’t understand what I am doing.

I have McAfee and have done a full scan and checked with the latest version of SKYBOT – they show nothing.

Has anyone any ideas please?

Thanks for this, however the plot thickens!

This link(and from the post *3) below gives instructions how to remove GinaDll

BCMLogon.dll is for Broadcom Corporation wireless Network Utility. You may configured the setting to manage your wireless networks on Start Up, hence changed the welcome screen and the Fast user switching.

To restore the fast user switching :
Click Start >> control panel >> Select the ‘wireless configuration utility’
Uncheck the first box that says
[ ] Let this tool manage My wireless networks
Click [OK] and your way out.

Click Start >> Run >> Type in the TXT box:

    regedit.exe Hit [Enter ]
Locate this Key and navigate to the Winlogon key.
    [-] HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ SOFTWARE \ Microsoft \ Windows NT \ CurrentVersion \ Winlogon =
In the right pane you’ll see the GinaDLL . Right-click the GinaDLL entry and Delete it.
Close the Registry Editor and Reboot your Machine, does it help?

I followed these instructions and there is no file called GinaDll.

The computer is a Dell and since I have owned it(4/5 years) I have always used the Dell wireless configuration tool.

I have now found that if I uncheck the box 'Let this tool manage My wireless networks' I get back to the normal welcome screen.

However the PC now will not connect to my wireless router(BT HUB2) on the normal signal - but will only connect to BT Fon or BT openworld(unsecured) It shows the normal BT signal as unobtainable|!!!!

    Any ideas please?

    Thanks for your continued help.

The laptop has XP SP3 and the BT hub states 'use WPA/WPA2'
