warm sure ripoff

dad had a broken down boiler. this boiler was installed under the warm sure scheme 3/3/06

i rang warm sure and they said they could get a man down today

cost being £ 250 pound up front before the repair and to be fair to them said that was their one of charge whatever the probem to include parts

dad is 90 and has dementia so we really need the hot water and i paid the money with card under protest

chap came and 1/2 hour work with parts coming to £50

total i think 22.50 ( half hour work ) 50 parts £80 max

as said bill £ 250 i was his 8th call of the day and he had more to do

i think it is a rip off picking on people who are desperate to get their boiler fixed or am i mistaken ?

i would value other opinions

I don't understand your post. If you thought it was a rip off why didn't you use someone else? If the parts and labour had been £300 you'd have been happy. That's the gamble you take.

thats why i said about an opinion......i was hoping for at least near parity not nearly 4 times as much.i do realise that they have to make money . i also think that have knowledge of the boiler and know its faults as they have fitted loads so i guess they know what is the most likely outcome as he brought the part in with him in his bag b 4 he started work...........just seems a bit steep that as well you have to pay before even b4 the job is complete...i do realise i could have used another contractor but i was worried that i couldnt get anyone else

i just thought i would put it out there so other people could make there own minds up ...i panicked when i had no heating or hot water and just took the opportunity to get it fixed
