Yes. Council Tax Benefit - please try www.entitledto.co.uk to see if you qualify.

Whether you do depends on your income, size of family and council tax amount.

There is no standard earnings amount but if you are on low income, you can claim Council Tax benefit.

The calculation is made up of your household income so any partners, tax credits, children etc.
Then they look at your income, hours of work and age and will calculate if you are eligible for assistance.
I currently manage a Housing Benefit service and have been working in Housing / council tax benefit (as was) since 2001.

Flffymovie is right totally depends on your family and if you have children, i have a partner we have twins one is disabiled, we earn just over £22000 and we get no help with council tax and a small amount towards rent

When my husband was unemployed and we were living off my wage of £14700 pa, we were told we weren't entitled to any help with council tax. We have no children though, may be different then.

When my husband was the only one working and was pregnant.
We were only earning £12.5k a year before tax and was refused it. When I asked if I could apply again after we had the baby, I was told that since we would get tax credits that would put our income up more and we would have no chance :(

    No.

A £20k income is far too high for council tax benefit.

The OP does not give enough information to determine this. If they have several children it is quite possible that a household with a £20,000 income will qualify for some CTB.
