Does anyone know of a free vehicle history check site, or a very cheap one.
I am about to buy a secondhand car and would like to see if its got any negative history

Seems a bit dodgy to me. The member has minimal feedback. Whats to say that he wont just put together a false report himslef and mail it to you - there doesnt seem to be anythign official there. The whole things seems a bit suspect.

Personally, I'd stick with something more well known. Cheapest reputable one I know is RAC (https://www.rac.co.uk) who do their checks via the HPI at £24.99. A bargain compared to HPI's own checks at £40

You can go to a police station, fill out a form and they will PNC check the vehicle for you. There is no charge for this.
It doesn't give a history in the true sense, but if you are nice to the person behind the counter they may give you a nod if there's something iffy about the motor.
It will show any stolen reports, if it's insured and if it's got a valid MOT. Can't remeber if they will give registered keepers details or not.
Not many people know about, including those that work for the police, but persist nicely....

I would definitely avoid autocheck.

I have just discovered, they only hold current data.

Ie, is the car currently reported as stolen?
This might be enough for you, however if the car has been stolen and recovered in the past their report will NOT tell you.

It is a very minimal report. HPi is considerably more comprehensive and tells you things that have happened to the car in the past. I know they cost more but I would definitely stick with them in the future knowing what I know now.

i tried them for a check on a 2005 car....true to there word i got sent an email shortly after but with no records held for the car on all the different categories..not sure if thats a positive result or that they just have no records held of the car altogether...will warn you that you have to go through a couple of marketing spam requests ( i just dont tick any ) and obligated to confirm when you current car insurance is due to expire from what i recall....let us know if you got anything more informative.

its free so you got nothing to lose

I used freevehiclecheck several times over the past few days and happily they alerted me that two of the cars had been previously written off, so i could avoid them.
