Currys complaint about washing machine installation

Can anyone help please?!
My father in law purchased a new washing machine from a Currys store and paid an extra sum to Currys to have it installed.
The machine was delivered and installed but during the first wash flooded the kitchen. The guy who installed it came back to rectify the problem and admitted responsibility as he didn't replace the old fittings which he should have done.
After a month of contact with Currys it turns out that they employed an external fitter and therefore we have to wait for his insurance company to pay out. Currys will not pay up in advance and then take it up with this company afterwards.
I have looked through all the paperwork given at time of purchase and it doesn't state anywhere that it could be installed by someone other than an employee of Currys.
I'm worried that the guy may deny causing the damage when he finds out it will be claimed on his own insurance.
Where do we stand? Surely Currys should be paying up in this instance?!

I'm certainly no expert and am only talking from common sense/my gut reaction! However, I would be raising the roof at Currys - surely you paid them to fit it, your contract is with them and its them who are liable if anything has gone wrong.

The fact that they sub contracted the work shouldn't matter - they should still be liable. As I said, thats only my gut feeling and I expect somebody will be along soon to tell me I'm talking a load of old codswallup!!!

I ordered a washing machine from them for my elderly mum a few years back and paid extra to have it fitted. When I visited her a week later she couldn't do any washing as they hadn't fitted it. The fitters had written a note to say the fittings weren't up to standard. I fitted it and it's still going strong 9 years later. I think they must employ amateur fitters.

Agree, your contract is with Currys so you should chase them. If they choose to sub-contract the work then that's their business and concern, not yours.

Agreed but they will still need to get a loss adjuster out to look at it.

Only alternative will be to claim through household insurance and then sue them (or your insurer might sue them).

You haven't stated what you need to claim for? If we got flooded all it would need would be a quick mop?

Even if Currys take full responsibilty they will still pass it on to their own insurance loss adjusters to sort out.
