Third car insurance?

OK, got made redundant from the College where I worked. Me and SWMBO used to car share in my 2004 Focus TDCi. Now I have landed myself another job in the opposite direction!!

We have 2 cars, my Focus and SWMBO's 2009/59 Mini Clubman.

SWMBO does not want to put mileage on the Mini. I cant get a train to my new job.

SO!! I reckon we buy a third car, but what about insurance? Will it be cheaper to put the Mini on a restricted mileage policy? etc etc....

The third car would be something like a 1.0 Clio.

TIA

Alex

Restricted mileage policies can be pretty cheap. Try some classic car companies (they don't just do classics!)

The cost of running another car would be a lot, with tax, MOT etc.. on top of everything else.

Sure shes not ashamed when driving the clubman, Everyone saying how ugly it is?

Going to waste a lot more than any potential saving of restricting the mileage on it.

If you put all 3 cars on an Admiral Multicar Policy you'll get 2 10% discounts, on all 3 policies as they give you an extra 10% for each car you add.

Why does she not just drive to work in her own car? What's the point in having the Mini? The costs involved in running an extra car will be astranomical in comparison to the drop in value to the mini by putting a few miles on it. Personally I think you're mad. However if you're determined to do it, as stated above try some of the Classic car insurers or specialist brokers such as Sky or Adrian Flux.

well this is why there is more than one car type, much like wives, yours is as ugly as an old boot but you still give her one....

Joking aside I think they are a good looking car, and it was chosen in all black unlike some of the abborations that people choose.

The reason that she wants to do this is because SWMBO works in a hospital and the car park is used by people that are less than careful. As an example the first day she took it someone scratched it and did £300 worth of damage. Last week she took my car and again someone damaged it. So now she has taken to parking at the very very back of the car park!

Yes I agree its a bit bonkers but if it keeps her happy.....
