I have no LLU at my exchange, I have used IDNet for 4 years, excellent service.0 -

Is there anything I can do?
Many thanks
As someone mentioned before you have a relatively low attenuation and I would expect your sync speed to be higher based on a downstream attenuation of 35db.
The noise margin is also relatively high at 15db suggesting there is a problem with the line. Ensure you have replaced the filter with a decent one and ensure nothing is connected to the line in your property at all and test it like that. Remember, everything you have connected to the property needs to be filtered.0 -
The phone line is now not working. Initial tests say it could be a fault with our equipment (telephones) and will charge me £150 for the engineer to visit if this is the case.
The broadband is still working albeit at the same slow speed. Would a problem with the telephones cause a these slow speeds?0 -
Hi Gambler,
What you need to do is find a normal telephone (not a digital handset) and plug it into your BT master socket. To do this remove the front two screws from your main bt socket and gently remove the front plate. Plug the phone directly into http://www.markdee.co.uk/images/Master%20Socket%20-%20Direct.JPG the socket displayed here.
If at this point you get no dial tone and your are positive the phone is working then this is definitely a BT issue and you will not be charged.
The phone line not working will almost certainly affect broadband. No dial tone = no broadband. No Internet Service Provider will touch an issue with the internet if there is an issue with the voice on the line as this indicates a bigger problem. If your broadband is connected then I'd hazard a guess that your phones are actually to blame. You can purchase a landline corded phone from tesco for about £4.0 -

Thanks Gavsto. The other half is in Tesco as I read this email to get a cheap corded spare. Unfortunately we don't have a test socket when I remove the plate in the master socket.:(
Update: Tried a corded phone but the line is completely dead. I will double check all the connections when I get back from work before rescheduling an engineer visit.0 -

An engineer is coming tomorrow as still no phone line. Funny thing is I have just arrived home from work and the download speeds are back to their normal high speeds. :j The plot thickens :question:0 -

The engineer has in fact been booked for the 29th July:mad:
But the voice line is working again since early this morning but the speeds are back to the 128kps :wall:0 -

Finally sorted, engineer called today and sorted out the box outside. We only had a 'partial connection'.
Thanks to everybody for their help. I hope this thread may help others. I tried to do a bot of searching before initially starting this thread and the number of times a thread never gave a final outcome was very frustrating !!0
