would appreciate some help with a summer london trip

Hi, I have booked for 2 adults and 2 children to travel to london by coach on sunday 1st august returning on tuesday 3rd august. We will arrive at victoria station at about 130pm. while we are there we hope to fit in some sight seeing, a trip to legoland, and a show. We leave london at 7pm on the tuesday. We have no idea where would be a good place to stay, not too expensive and how to get to legoland. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

    Directions to Legoland
Just half an hour from London Paddington to Windsor & Eton Central, via Slough on the First Great Western Or direct from London Waterloo to Windsor & Eton Riverside on South West Trains . There is a shuttle bus service to the park from stops close to both rail stations; please note that this is a chargeable service and is not operated by the Park. For times of the shuttle bus service please visit www.legolandshuttle.com

For somewhere to stay you could try the buget hotels who do family rooms that sleep 4, such as Travelodge, Premier Inn, Holiday Inn. The Holiday Inns and TL's are good value for breakfast as kids eat breakfast free at a buffet type breakfast so give you a good start for the day. Southwark is pretty good as it is only 10 minutes walk Or 1 stop on the tube) from there to Waterloo for the train to Windsor. The embankment (with Houses of Parliament, Big Ben, London Eye etc) is beside there. The TL is a fairly new one and has a cafe for breakfast (some don't).
  • If you have a little spare cash how about a London Duck Tour. They are hilarious.

Legoland is great, expensive though, so look into getting some form of deal through some money off vouchers. The Glinsters deal that is on this site isn't valid for August.
  • In terms of a show Lion King is good for children.

Personally I wouldn't recommend going to the Rainforest Cafe for food, ridiculously expensive, long waits, and nothing more than a TGIs with loud jungle sounds

I'm having trouble finding a family room for the above dates, would it be better to stay in the same hotel both nights or to stay in a different one when we go to legoland.?

I've found an affordable family room at travelodge heathrow central, does anybody have any experience of this hotel, would we able to get into central london and to legoland using public transport from this hotel?

Hi, we stayed at this Hotel when we visited Legoland in June, but we travelled to Legoland from the Hotel by car, its about 13 miles. The Hotel is fine, the room was smallish, but clean and comfortable, we asked for extra pillows and these were given. Can recommend the Hotel, but can't help with transport queries, sorry:)

I did think you might be better off doing that price wise, but then considered that you would have to drag any lugguage around with you either in London or Legoland until you check into the next hotel usually after 3pm on the day.

I think you will struggle to get any cheap deals for family rooms in London this last minute in the school holidays, so may have to cosnider staying outside and travelling in.

Slough Holiday Inn has a family room including breakfast for the 2 nights you want on the 2 for 1 deal at £37.47 per room per night including breakfast. You can get the train in to London from Slough and if you google I seem to remember there was a bus that goes from there to Legoland.

  • Heathrow is incredibly close to Legoland so I would recommend driving there, if that is how you are getting to London.

In terms of Heathrow, that is all connected by underground and overground, so very easy for transport links.

Thats an awful lot of tooing and froing in just 2 and a bit days... a whole day for Legoland if you are going to travel there from London which leaves Sunday afternoon and Tuesday for all the other stuff and back to Victoria for 7pm ... how old are the children ? They are going mght be worn out with all that walking and travelling.. Its ok saying Heathrow is closeby but not if you are travelling with 2kids and your luggage on public transport...
