It's now possible to watch live streaming YouTube videos using VLC media player instead of watching them in a browser.

This only works with the latest version of VLC.
That's version [STRIKE]v1.0.0.[/STRIKE] [STRIKE]v1.1.0.[/STRIKE] v1.1.1. From here:-http://www.videolan.org/

There's information and a demo video here:-http://lifehacker.com/5577212/play-youtube-videos-directly-in-vlc-media-player

You can also avoid using Flash player by opting in to their trial of HTML 5 pages if you have a compatible browser.

VLC doesn't seem to work any more for viewing the streaming videos.:o
I think that maybe YouTube have re-jigged their system.

DownloadHelper addon for FireFox isn't working either with YouTube.:(
But the flash files still appear in the tmp folder.:)
