Santander, cheque book/basic account

Hi all

I applied to Santander for a bank account and got the basic 'Bank Account' with Visa Debit Card (unembossed). They sent me a welcome email with a cheque book attachment request which I printed out and returned to the bank, thought I'd try my luck as think that is a standard email for all accounts as I have a totally adverse credit rating.

Anyway, 7 days after I sent the request form I rang customer service's to ask if it had been sent out and they told me I needed to go in to my branch so I went in the next day and they said they had ordered one for me then got home to a nice letter from Santander saying sorry, unable to issue cheque book etc etc so I thought even though the branch have ordered one, I probably won't get it.

Suprise suprise I had one posted to me today so am wondering if this is a mistake on their part and I should never have received it? has anyone else experienced this?

Basic ban accounts don't provide a cheque book.

I don't think it is basic account, as the Santander ones don't come with a debit card of any kind.

My guess would the standard account without a full debit card, but with the option of a chequebook .

Thanks for replies, the strange thing is, the decline letter that came said "we are unable to offer you a chequebook at this time" so it seems as though the branch had ordered them to send one out
