Completely confused about feeding my baby now...

can you still purchase gripe water? it used to be marketed under the brand name woodwards gripe water.
it is basically a distillation of the herb dill. which is excellent for wind!
I used to use it for my babies if wind was still trapped - ie their legs were drawn up and they were howling with pain after feeding.
are parents still taught to burp the baby a couple of times during feeds? I seem to hear a lot of parents saying their babies cry a lot after feeding and wonder if they are burped enough (the babies - not the parents!). not to mention how many times i see babies feeding from a bottle while in their pushchairs (highly dangerous - but parents seem to think its normal practice).
try burping baby - that is rubbing her back or patting it gently until she lets out a burp which would make a navvy proud, and then letting her feed again for a few mins then burp her again. trapped wind is very painful and can take hours to pass through. a little patience about burping them while feeding can pay dividends in the babies sleeping straight after!0 -

I don't think parents are taught anything about babycare these days....I certainly wasn't given any advise, just sent out into the world with my vulnerable little babies and left to work it all out. When I asked the hv about the feeding problems I am having with my 2nd I was told to give her the whole feed and burp at the end.
Anyway my OH went to a 24 hour supermarket last night and bought variflow teats and I have started my lo on the c&g comfort milk (+gaviscon) and so far it has made the world of a difference:j I got more sleep last night and she has been happy and settled. I don't want to get excited too soon but it is looking good so far!0 -

A bit more sleep for you always makes the world seem better.
